Bible Verses

Here is a collection of Bible verses and passages that have greatly helped and encouraged me over the years, particularly when undergoing trials. My prayer is that they would help you too! :)

From the Old Testament:

~ Job 5:17-18 “Behold, blessed is the one whom God reproves; therefore despise not the discipline of the Almighty. For He wounds, but He binds up; he shatters, but his hands heal.”

~ Psalm 8:9-10 "The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord have not forsaken those who seek you."

~ Psalm 27:1  "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"

~ Psalm 27:14 "Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."

~ Psalm 88:1-3 "O Lord, God of my salvation; I cry out day and night before you. Let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry! For my soul is full of troubles..."

~ Psalm 107: 28-30 "Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven."

~ Psalm 119:75 "I know, O Lord, that your rules are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me."

~ Psalm 138:8 "The Lord will work out His plans for my life, for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever."

~ Psalm 139:9-10 "If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me."

~ Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight."

~ Ecclesiastes 3:1,4 "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven... a time to weep, and a time to laugh..."

~ Isaiah 26:3,4 "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock."

~ Isaiah 41:10 "...fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

~ Isaiah 43:1-2 ~ "But now thus says the Lord, He who created you, O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel: 'Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.'"

~ Jeremiah 17:7-8 "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is in the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit."

~ Jeremiah 22:21-22 "I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, 'I will not listen.' This has been your way from your youth, that you have not obeyed My voice. The wind shall shepherd all your shepherds, and your lovers shall go into captivity; then you will be ashamed and confounded because of your evil."

Lamentations 3

From the New Testament:

~ Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

~ Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

~ Matthew 28: 20 "And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

~ John 11:4 (Regarding Lazarus's death) "...It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it."

~ John 15:2 "Every branch of mine that does not bear fruit He takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit."

~ John 16:33 "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

~ Romans 5:1-5 "Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the golry of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us."

~ Romans 8:28 "For we know that all things work together for good to those who love the Lord ... to those who are called according to His purpose."

~ 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 "So we do not lose heart. Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."

~ Philippians 4:4-7 "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

~ Hebrews 12:2-3 "...let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted."

~ James 1:2-18 "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing .  . . Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. . .  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change..."

God bless, and may these verses help you to seek Him during the hard times!
